    Querying a book with 100k+ words will get you auto-rejected by many agents. There’s a lot of reasons for this I won’t get into on here, but I would recommend being able to query a 5-digit word count, even if it’s very close to 100. Seeing that 100 can be a death sentence. Again, not saying for sure, just saying it will limit your opportunities.

  • @AdamFishkin

    NAMES. I feel for you, but my recommendation for next project is that you take care of all the names during the outline stage. Save yourself the multiple-draft hell of pausing the process to scrounge for and insert names. Congrats to the friend in your group who's secured a Sept. release date. 😁 Also congrats on them supporting you the way they do. A good policy is that when people know they've earned each other's trust, they should acknowledge it and practice such trust. Getting down to the word count you want, please just trust your instincts. Whichever words you feel aren't helpful, you might as well comb through where they are in context and get them over with. Good luck on Project Veil.

    I meet with my critique group at 7 pm too! The rearranging chapters part is definitely long, but important. I did that last month. That's awesome that you guys got to chat more and celebrate each other. I'm not sure if you've shared this in a previous video, but how did you find your critique group? I'm a part of a children's book critique group, but I would like to also find a critique group that writes fiction novels. That's great that Beta Readers have made you feel excited about your book and the plot again.

    Hello, I'm an aspiring writer with an odd question. I have a passion for creating stories, but I have no talent. I was born with a litany of mental disabilities and with a low IQ. Despite my attempts, I've been unable to improve my intelligence in a way that would yield any merit, both in writing and in a number of pursuits. I'm in my late 40s and I believe it's too late to build any career in writing.I've been wasting my time and energy in trying to write a number of books to no avail. This passion for story creation will not leave me. Any advice on how to eliminate this passion for writing? It's not going anywhere and there is no extrinsic value for me if I continue with this dream.

    • @SaraLubratt
      @SaraLubratt 6 днів тому

      Does the act of writing bring you joy? You called it a passion which in and of itself is value. Your 40s are definitely not too late to build a career writing but if you enjoy it, it’s not a waste of time. If you really want to finish a story but that hasn’t worked yet, could you change the goal length of the project or try writing in a different form? Like maybe a 100k novel isn’t working, but maybe writing a tv script would? I know that’s not the answer you were looking for but the extrinsic value of something is not the only thing to be considered. Not everything you do needs to be monetized. If you enjoy it, you can simply do it for that sake

    I read this book in the beginning of June and I found it to be amazing, it definitely fit my taste. Yes, if you read a lot of books you can predict some of the ending but that's what makes it fun, when you can say "Yesss I called it". I can't say this for certain but from the bad reviews that I read it was mostly people complaining about the fact that Violet was feeling too much and wasn't as badass as they thought it would be which I found to be wholly untrue because not every has to be cold hearted k*ller and "I don't care about taking human lives" I actually enjoy when the characters have feelings and aren't just considered badass or cool because they can k*ll without remorse. But as all books,films,series everyone has different taste and someone might say that this was a revolutionary book for them, some could say that they couldn't get through it. Like me I heard thousand good ratings about Percy Jackson and I loved the movies but for the life of me I can't stand the books.

    It's a good book to read if your trying to get back into reading after a long time, but as someone who reads often it gave me a terrible headache to read. The main reason is probably because the Author regularly writes romance and not fantasy. Haven't read the other ones, probably won't, but I hope she did more research.
